John Bier (Santpoort, 17 december 1936) is a Dutch sculptor and draftsman. John Bier was a student at the Institute for Applied Arts Education in Amsterdam from 1954 to 1958. As a three-year-old, he moved with his parents to Alkmaar, where he still lives and works. Man plays an important role in Bier’s work. One of his more famous images is that of ‘strandvonder’ Simon Gutker (1897-1988), which was placed at the end of the Hondsbosse sand barrier near Camperduin.
