Description
Wilhelm Heinrich ‘Willem’ Klijn (Amsterdam 1892 – 1961) was born in Amsterdam in 1892, studied at the art academy there. He was a graphic artist, painter, draftsman, pastelist, watercolorist, manufacturer of woodcuts, etcher and lithographer. Place of activity Amsterdam, Brussels, Den Helder, Wijk aan Zee (Beverwijk) and Zandvoort. Like most Amsterdam realists, he was a member of ‘De Onafhankelijken’ (1922) and ‘De Brug’ (1926), whose members include Charley Toorop, Dick Ket, Theo Swagemakers and Willem Vaarzon Morel and with the aim of introducing New Objectivity to painting.
